ANANDRON (Nilutamide) is a pure, nonsteroidal anti-androgen which blocks androgen binding to androgen receptors. ANANDRON (Nilutamide) blocks the action of androgens of adrenal and testicular origin. ANANDRON (Nilutamide) is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug or to any constituents of the drug product and in patients with severe hepatic dysfunction or with severe respiratory insufficiency. ANANDRON (Nilutamide) is also contraindicated in women and children. Patients administered nilutamide should be warned against consuming alcohol because of a possible disulfiramlike reaction. Patients should be advised regarding impairment of light adaptation if they plan to operate a vehicle or machinery. Refer to dosing protocol by which patient is being treated. Treatment should be discontinued if pneumonitis is diagnosed, and the use of steroids should be considered. Patients of Asian origin may also be at a high risk of liver function test abnormalities.
