Plan B is an emergency contraceptive which reduces the chance of pregnancy after unprotected sex. You could also use Plan B if a contraceptive failed or if you did not use birth control. Plan B is not intended to replace regular birth control and should only be used in emergencies. Plan B works by preventing ovulation or fertilization of a released egg. It can also prevent a fertilized egg from being implanted to the uterus. You must take the first tablet within 72 hours of having unprotected sex and then take the second tablet exactly 12 hours after taking the first tablet.
