How Tekamlo Works
Tekamlo is an anti-hypertensive, or a blood pressure lowering medication. It is a combination medication with the two active ingredients being aliskiren and amlodipine. Aliskiren is known as a rennin inhibitor, it is the first medication if its kind. Renin is an enzyme that is produced in the kidneys that have functions throughout the body. It works to convert angiotensinogen to angiotensin I, this then gets converted by another enzyme to angiotensin II. This is a powerful substance that increases blood pressure by narrowing blood vessels. The second medication in this combination pill is Amlodipine which is a calcium channel blocker. This slows down the rate at which calcium moves into your blood vessel walls. This in turn helps to relax the vessels which allows for better blood flow and causes lower blood pressure.
