Chemical Name: Pancreatic Enzymes (Lipase, Protease, Amylase)
|
Viokase
Information
Viokase is a combination of three enzymes (proteins): lipase, protease, and amylase. These enzymes are produced naturally in the pancreas and are important in the digestion of fats, proteins, and sugars.
Viokase is used to replace these enzymes when the body does not have enough of its own. Viokase reduces the pain associated with disorders of the pancreas. Conditions for which Viokase may be used include cystic fibrosis, chronic inflammation of the pancreas, and blockage of the pancreatic ducts. In addition, Viokase may be used following removal of the pancreas.
