How Imiquimod Works
Imiquimod cream is used to treat conditions affecting the skin; actinic keratosis, superficial basal cell carcinoma and genital warts are the three most common conditions that Imiquimod helps to treat. When treating genital warts, Imiquimod works by stimulating the immune system to fight infected cells, the activated immune cells then eliminate cells that cause genital warts. Imiquimod is to be used topically only and is to be used exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

Generic Aldara vs Brand Aldara
There are very slight differences between brand and generic Aldara; both medications contain the medical ingredient Imiquimod. Imiquimod is marketed by 3M as Aldara your order of Aldara may have an alternate name depending on its country of origin. Generic Aldara is manufactured outside of a Merck facility; this is the biggest difference between Aldara and Imiquimod. Imiquimod Possible side effects

Do not use Aldara if you are allergic to Imiquimod or any other ingredients found in the medication. It is important to minimize sunlight exposure or sunlamps while using Imiquimod as your skin becomes prone to sunburn. Sexual contact must be avoided while cream is applied as it weakens condoms and vaginal diaphragms. This medication must not be used while pregnant or breast-feeding as it may pass on to the baby
