How Losartan/hctz Works
Hyzaar contains a combination of hydrochlorothiazide and losartan. Hyzaar (losartan/Hctz) is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is also used to lower the risk of stroke in certain people with heart disease. Losartan keeps blood vessels from narrowing, which lowers blood pressure and hydrochlorothiazide is a water pill that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt. This medication my also be used for other purposes not listed..

Generic Losartan/hctz vs Brand Hyzaar
Generic medications are chemically and therapeutically identical to the branded equivalent. This means that the active ingredients and the way the medication works inside of the body are the same. The potency and effectiveness of the medicine does not change in a generic form.
