How Tarceva Works
Tarceva is a medication utilized to combat non-small cell lung cancer and is also used in the treatment of pancreatic cancer. It works by preventing the activity of a protein called epidermal growth factor receptor, this protein is known to be involved in the growth and spread of cancer cells, and Tarceva works by preventing this protein to spread. For the treatment of lung cancer Tarceva is only used when at least one other type of chemotherapy treatment has been unsuccessful. Tarceva can also be prescribed in combination with another treatment called gemcitabine if you have cancer of the pancreas at a metastatic stage. In this case it should be used by patients who have not yet received previous chemotherapy.
