How Zofran Works

Zofran Oral Solution (Ondansetron) is a medication used to prevent nausea and vomiting, primarily caused by surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation treatment. When going through chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or surgery, a chemical called serotonin is released in the body. Serotonin stimulates certain receptors in the brain and the gut, and sends nerve messages to the vomiting center of the brain, triggering nausea and vomiting. Zofran works by blocking the serotonin from stimulating the receptors, and in turn blocks messages from being sent to the vomiting center. This then reduces nausea and vomiting.

Generic Ondansetron vs Brand Zofran

Brand and generic Zofran are available with a doctor’s prescription. It is entirely your choice whether you want a brand or generic. The chemical Ondansetron was first developed by GlaxoSmithKline in London, and the pharmaceutical company GSK markets it as Zofran in North America. Brand Zofran and generic Zofran are identical in dose, strength, safety, efficacy and its intended use. The biggest difference is that the generic is not manufactured inside a GSK facility. Rest assured that Blueskydrugs.com only provides you with highest quality generic drugs from reputable generic manufacturers. If you have any concerns, feel free to contact us.

Zofran Guidelines

You should not use Zofran if you are also taking apomorphine, or if you are allergic to ondansetron. To make sure Zofran is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, and electrolyte imbalance, congestive heart failure, slow heartbeats, a personal or family history of long QT syndrome, or a blockage in your digestive tract. Zofran is not expected to harm an unborn child, but tell your doctor if you are pregnant. It is unknown whether ondansetron passes into breastmilk, or if it could harm a nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Zofran is not approved for use by anyone younger than 4 years old. Zofran may impair your thinking or reactions. Tell your doctor about any medications you are currently taking to reduce the risk of interactions, specifically medication for depression, medication to treat a psychiatric disorder, a narcotic (opioid) mediation, or other medication to prevent nausea and vomiting.
